Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important representative said the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
